Yay for reading!

Since this has nothing to do with my work in Macau i figured i would post this here.

I just finished reading Water for Elephants today. It was an excellent book. I started it when i got home for the summer and got abou halfway through and got distracted and didn't pick it up again until about 3 days ago. I am very happy that i finished it. It was very good and has a feelgood nostalgic ending to it that just warms your insides. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book about the circus; which i mean, who wouldn't love a book about the circus? It's the circus!
Now onto finished Eat, Love Pray and Jim and Casper Go to Church.

Hmmph

Apparently I am not a cool enough person for people to remember their plans with me. This is the second time this week that someone has forgotten their plans with me. Should I be worried about this?

New Book

I had a Borders gift card to use so i stopped in yesterday and browsed around. I figured that i probably didn't need another fiction book so i looked at the religion section (which i had never done at Borders before). I found this book: Jim & Casper Go to Church. It had been recommended to me by numerous people and i never picked up untl now. It is fantastic! It's about a retired pastor (Jim) who hires an athiest (Casper) to go check out churches around the country and do a survey on what he saw. It is a great book about what church looks like from the eyes of a visitor and it's pretty funny. I recommend this book to anyone grew up in the church, just to see what it's like for those who didn't.

Helping

Last night Matt and I were driving home from hanging out with Jamie and i saw a car parked on the side of the road, except that it was in a place that cars aren't supposed to be parked so i assumed it was stalled or something. Then about 50 feet ahead of the car were two people frantically waving their arms and yelling So i figured that i should stop and help them. Anyhow, turns out they ran out of gas and the gas station that was closest was closed. So we took them to a gas station and got gas for them and such. During the 20 minutes we spent with them they divulged pretty much their whole life story and kept offering us money for helping (which we refused). By the end they just couldn't seem to understand why we didn't want anything from them. It made me sad. Is our world that bad that people won't just help each other out? They made me realize how much of a broken world we live in. I'm glad Matt was with me because if he wasn't i wouldn't have stopped, and turns out these people really needed our help and they just needed to see that people will help you without asking for anything in return.

Hmm....

In 3 weeks from today i will be leaving the country for a whole year. It's coming up so fast. Where has my summer gone? There is still so much i need to do before i go, and so many things i need to buy. I can however check off New Computer from the checklist of things to buy because my MacBook arrived yesterday. I am feeling very unprepared to be going. I know that God will take care of me and that I shouldn't worry about the small stuff, but it's hard not to.
On the positive, less worrisome side of things, my parents are having a send off party for me on the 18th and anyone is invited. So if you are in town, or would like to come in town you are more than welcome to join us for some fantastic barbecue and beer. I have a small house, but anyone from out of town is welcome to stay here. Also, the 19th is my commissioning-ish service at my church. I'm glad that my home church has been excited about my service in Macau. My pastor has been great! (On a side note: it's nice to have a pastor who is solely my pastor and not my boss.)
Well time to get ready for work.

EDIT: My send off party will be Wednesday the 15th in the evening.

I'm too excited to sleep!

Okay so that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's close. I ordered a new computer on Monday and i can't wait for it to get here, which won't be until Tuesday. I am will soon be the proud owner of a Macbook. I'm so excited. But i am not excited about having to learn the quirks of a Mac.
I did however receive my new iPod that comes with it today. It'll be nice to have an iPod that can fit most of my music instead of my little iPod Mini that only holds like 250 songs. I haven't played with it yet, i think that will be the task of tomorrow.
In other news, the Wisconsin State Fair starts tomorrow. I might have to go there for dinner. Mmm.....fried food on a stick.
